Here are some best practices for protecting your oral health, so you can reduce your risk of needing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.familydentalcampbellstation.com\/emergency-dentistry.html\">emergency dental care<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brush and Floss Daily<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day are the easiest and best ways to ensure that your teeth and gums stay strong and healthy.&nbsp; Just a few minutes a day can protect your mouth from cavities, tooth decay, infection, and gum disease, preserving your overall health and your teeth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t Use Your Teeth as Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes in a pinch it\u2019s easier to tear open a package with your teeth than locate a box cutter or bite a fingernail off instead of filing it down. But those seemingly innocent, time-saving hacks can be dangerous to your teeth. Not only can they permanently wear down your tooth enamel, but they can also chip it! Thus, only use proper implements for opening packaging or grooming nails, and don\u2019t chew on inedible objects like pen caps when you\u2019re bored or stressed, as this is very dangerous as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wear a Mouthguard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you grind your teeth? Do you play sports? Both of these activities can be harmful to your smile. Don\u2019t leave your teeth vulnerable to accidental damage. Speak to your dentist about having a custom mouthguard created. These are much more comfortable than the boil-and-bite varieties sold over the counter, so you\u2019re more likely to wear them regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit Your Dentist Regularly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideally, you should visit your dentist twice a year for your regular, biannual exams and cleanings. These not only keep your teeth looking their best, but they also can help prevent oral health problems from getting out of hand. Small cavities can sometimes be reversed with early intervention, as can gingivitis. Larger problems can also be caught early on before they have a chance to become more costly and painful, helping you avoid a future dental emergency!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monitor Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, even the most dedicated dental patient still may experience oral health changes. If you notice anything different, such as bleeding gums, a lump on your gums, a sore that won\u2019t heal, tooth sensitivity, or a persistent toothache, don\u2019t wait until your biannual check-up to get help.
