Spring 2018 Newsletter
At Family Dental Associates, we understand that having a straighter smile is about more than just looks. A straighter smile gives you an improved bite and makes caring for your teeth easier than before, so you greatly reduce your chances of getting gum disease or having tooth decay. So how do we do it?
Today, there are two main companies that produce clear aligners proven to straighten teeth. Furthermore, these plastic trays accomplish this without any brackets, wires, or any other metal components. Since 1999, Invisalign came onto the market and took on traditional orthodontics full-force; we’ve been watching since then.
While we’ve been aware of this technology, newer and better clear aligner technology has become available. This technology, known as ClearCorrect, released in 2006 and has clearly taken a page out of Invisalign’s book. You may have even seen it advertised in our practice because we believe that it can provide several benefits for nearly all our patients.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a teenager searching for an alternative to traditional braces or an adult who doesn’t want to go through the process again. ClearCorrect clear aligners are ideal for both groups whether your teeth are still developing or completely done. It’s ideal for anyone who’s trying to straighten their teeth without the inconveniences that come with metal braces.
Wearing clear aligners is generally more comfortable, according to the many patients who have used it in our practice. They offer a better aesthetic, so you’ll be able to keep up your image (professional or otherwise.) It’s far easier to brush and floss since the clear aligners are removable, and the treatment time is typically shorter because it’s more targeted. This is thanks to the CAD/CAM system that works in tandem with ClearCorrect.
What many patients don’t realize is that ClearCorrect allows us to target very specific areas of your teeth. That means if you only need to fix issues on a single arch, you only need to get clear aligners for that area.
The complexity of your case determines how long you’ll need to wear your aligners for, as well as how often you wear them. Your treatment is computer planned, which is better for both patients and dentists because you can see every step of your orthodontic treatment and your dentist can make adjustments as necessary. This provides us more predictable and consistent results than traditional braces.
When it comes to orthodontic treatment, many people never end up pursuing it because they don’t want to commit to wearing braces or because they have an allergic reaction to its metal components. This only lowers patient compliance for braces.
ClearCorrect however, opens the door for more patients to receive treatment because clear aligners are made of thermoplastic, not nickel, which more people tend to be allergic to when used in braces. You’ll also get to eat all the same foods you enjoy, and sometimes people would rather have that than have a healthier, straighter smile. Now, you can get the best of both worlds.
If you decide to use ClearCorrect for your orthodontic needs, you’ll be consulting with Dr. Chapman, who handles these cases for patients. We hope you take a moment to learn more about him and his journey to Family Dental Associates.
A Family of Medical Professionals
Dr. Chapman was familiar with the medical world since he was very young. His father was an OBGYN doctor, however, Keith wasn’t always interested in pursuing dentistry. Initially a math and science guy, he became interested in dentistry during his orientation at Texas A&M University at San Antonio. He was surprised by the potential state the country could be in without enough dentists by the turn of the century. It was that moment that he found himself in the medical field like his father.
